Tributes from Colleagues

Eric Stuart, who voiced Brock and James, paid a beautiful tribute to Rachael on Twitter, calling her a “partner in comedic crime”. Veronica Taylor, who voices Ash Ketchum, also spoke about how amazing Rachael was. She was always there to support Rachael during this difficult time. To help, Rachael’s sister launched a GoFundMe campaign in May 2024 to assist with medical expenses.

The official Pokémon Twitter account also paid tribute to Rachael. They posted a heartfelt message remembering Rachael’s unique talent and how she brought to life so many beloved characters. In the end, they expressed their condolences to her family and friends. A touching gesture in times like these!

The Many Faces of Rachael Lillis

In addition to voicing Misty and Jessie, Rachael also lent her voice to various beloved Pokémon throughout the series and games, such as Jigglypuff, Goldeen, Torchic, Beautifly, and Vulpix. She also voiced several other characters in different anime series and movies. It’s worth noting that Tomoko Kawakami, the voice actress of Utena, also passed away from cancer in 2011 at the age of 41. A sad coincidence, right?
