Free game for iOS and Android

Disney has announced a new game for iOS and Android called Disney Pixel RPG that will apparently be released on September 9, according to the App Store. It is a free game, but in-app purchases will be available.

Characters and Story

The story follows various Disney characters and their worlds being invaded and broken by sticky monsters. It’s up to the player to traverse these worlds and connect them back together. So far, confirmed characters in the RPG include Maleficent, Mickey Mouse, Donald Duck, Ariel, Baymax, Genie, Aladdin, Winnie the Pooh, Aurora, and Stitch.

Gameplay

The gameplay seems to have a turn-based battle system, complete with simple touch controls and an auto-play feature. Additionally, players can send their characters on expeditions while away from the game and bring back items.

Other Characters and Properties

The game’s App Store pages also mention that other Disney characters and properties will make an appearance. These include Mulan, Peter Pan, Zootopia, and The Aristocats.

Comparison with Kingdom Hearts

Disney Pixel RPG bears a strong resemblance to the Kingdom Hearts series, but it is a more casual and family-friendly approach. However, fans of the series may have to wait, as Kingdom Hearts IV is reportedly set to be released in 2025. For Disney fans, the return of Epic Mickey is expected later this year with Epic Mickey: Rebrushed.
