Days Gone Director Criticizes Bend Studio for Not ‘Protecting Its Legacy’ in Astro Bot Announcement

The Saga of Days Gone

Release and Controversy

Days Gone was released on PlayStation 4 in 2019, and although it’s a solid open-world, post-apocalyptic shooter, it didn’t start off on the best footing. Its performance was below expectations at launch, but thanks to a series of updates, the game eventually established itself as an enjoyable experience and even made its way to PC. In the end, players had the chance to experience the "end of the world" in two different ways!

What Happened to the Sequel?

Unfortunately, despite the rich universe filled with possibilities, Bend Studio has decided not to pursue a sequel. This left many fans, including the game’s director, feeling disappointed. He recently sent a message expressing his discontent about seeing Deacon St. John, the protagonist, used to promote other games.

Deacon and the New Astro Bot

To celebrate the release of Astro Bot, Bend Studio posted an image of Deacon watching the Astro Bot crew having fun at the beach. That’s when John Garvin, one of the writers and directors of Days Gone, let his thoughts be known:

"It’s kind of sad to see Deek reduced to promoting other games… Congratulations, Bend Studio! Nice way to protect your legacy!"

Garvin Didn’t Hold Back

Garvin isn’t shy about expressing his thoughts on social media. He left Bend Studio in 2019, shortly after the launch of Days Gone, and has consistently shared his disappointment about how the game was undervalued. He commented on social media:

"Haha, I see my character becoming a little caricature promoting some small game, and I’m the hard one? Hold on, my brother, adults are talking."

The Experience of Playing Days Gone

Honestly, I really enjoyed Days Gone! I explored everything I could, collected trophies, and became hooked. One of my favorite mechanics was the "horde mechanic," where hundreds of enemies attack at once, resulting in some of the craziest battles I’ve ever played.

What Happened to Days Gone?

It’s a pity that Bend Studio seems to have forgotten about Days Gone. This isn’t the first time the team has left a game in the dust, and while Garvin has faced criticism for defending his work in this manner on social media, it’s easy to understand where he’s coming from.

Curiosities and News

For those keeping up with game news, it’s worth noting that Stellar Blade might make an appearance in Astro Bot! Keep an eye out!
