ENTREVISTA: Tymon Smektała da Techland Comenta Sobre o Suporte ao Dying Light 2 Até 2027

Dying Light: The Beast – A New Era in Zombie Gaming

Techland stirred excitement at Gamescom by unveiling the first trailer for Dying Light: The Beast during the Opening Night Live. I had the opportunity to meet with Techland two times after the reveal: once for an exclusive extended gameplay demo and another time to discuss with Tymon Smektała, the director of the Dying Light franchise.

What is Dying Light: The Beast?

Dying Light: The Beast is an entirely new and independent adventure that started as the second paid DLC for Dying Light 2, released in 2022. I had the chance to ask Tymon about this expansion and the future of Dying Light 2.

Is This The End?

Fans of Dying Light 2 have eagerly awaited updates regarding the second DLC. While this wasn’t what they expected, it turns out to be much better in many aspects. Dying Light: The Beast brings back Roger Craig Smith as Kyle Crane and features an 18-hour story that explains the lengthy gap between the first two games in the series.

What About the Future of Dying Light 2?

I was curious about Techland’s plans for Dying Light 2, especially now that the originally planned second (and possibly final) DLC has become an independent project:

“We had to slow things down a bit for the crucial preparation of ‘The Beast’ for Gamescom, but even on announcement day, we released an update for Dying Light 2. We promised five years of support, and we are keeping that promise. Expect new content coming this year.”

Reflection on the Series’ Success

Looking back at the success of the series, Tymon acknowledged that the large expansion for Dying Light (2015), ‘The Following’, could also have been an independent title, but he emphasized that ‘this time is different’.

He mentioned that The Beast will answer many unresolved questions and enhance the lore of the series, making this new entry more accessible to all players. As Tymon stressed, now you can play Dying Light: The Beast without needing to ‘migrate’ to Dying Light 2.

The Future of Dying Light

Looking ahead, Tymon expressed his desire to make Dying Light the definitive zombie experience. He hopes that someday, when asked about the best zombie game, the first title that comes to mind will be Dying Light.

In my opinion, we are already there.

Dying Light 3: Is It on the Horizon?

I couldn’t conclude the interview without asking about Dying Light 3. While Tymon highlighted that there are ‘many possible ideas’ for the game, he couldn’t divulge any information.
